Hello all,
I'm trying to install kali linux in a cloud environment to be able to use as a lab. I have installed linux on multiple devices using vmware/Virtual box and baremetal. However , I'm having the toughest time installing it in Hyper-v in a cloud hosted(azure) Windows server. The point being I'm running into a lightdm error every install. I reinstalled , downloaded the lightdm package , enable a different graphic, and literally tried anything I could find. No solution worked I find myself in a rabbit hole as it is important I do have other task that need to be done. I wanted to reach out before going in circles or tearing my azure lab down as this was the only purpose for it in the first place.

When you say an error withg lightDM do you mean an error upon restart?

If you change your desktop manager on Linux you have to rebuild your initramfs so that it will know where to find the new manager on a reboot;

I am having the same issue here. Follows many of the solutions already posted here and elsewhere with no success.

I also tried installing release 3 of kali (the previous version) and got the same issue. This would lead me to believe it may have been something that changed in Azure Labs and not in Kali but this is not definite.

Microsoft not being that helpful here https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/1132809/windows-server-2019-hyper-v-kali-black-screen.html

Thank you I'll give this a try I had reconfigured and installed the desktop manager again in a different tutorial. I also think I might need to go to an older version of Kali I've seen some people having issued with the recent version.

Kali GUI Linux is available in Azure Marketplace with preinstalled Kali tools. You can try it from https://azuremarketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/apps/techlatest.desktop-linux-kali
