Hi Guys,

I've installed fresh VM on Hyper-V based on 2022.4 installer.
After performing the "dist-upgrade" it stopped to work completely - not starting automatically with GUI (GNOME).
There is a black screen and blinking cursor only.
I can switch to other text console (ALT-Fx) but without GUI.

As I checked the problem is with the Kali Linux 6.0.0-kali5-amd64 (Debian 6.0.10-2kali1 (2022-12-06) x86_64.
When I enter in the Advanced options at start and select "Linux 5.15.0-kali3-amd64" it started well.

Any support or fix would be useful.

From the bootable install, open a terminal and use grub make config to add the new install to grub menu;

sudo grub-mkconfig

Got the same issue, did you find a solution?

Sadly, this doesn't did the trick to get the latest Kali release working. :-( You get the dragon logo splash and after that a blinking cursor on a black screen. Terminal works.

I installed a previous version in another VM and it works. But I want the latest one ofc.

Tested solution on my Hyper-V server: seems for the newer Kali versions it needs to be a generation-2 vm with secure boot disabled. (Thx to Reddit poster). So a reinstall will be probably be required.
