When I try to select the Kali Linux Disk Image it says "Failed to open CD/DVD Image" "Could not get the storage format of the medium". I have no idea what to do. Any help? It would be appreciated

Have you tried redownloading the iso, could just be a bad download? When I had Mint installed on my netbook I was able to open Kali in Virtualbox without a hitch.

Have you checked the sha1sum to make sure it matches?
i downloaded the "VMware" image not the ISO i'm decompression them right now
is that what should i do ?

I just used the iso file and booted the vm from that. Typically what I do whenever I want to try various linux distros.

When I've seen that, it's been from an incomplete or corrupted download. Definitely check the sha1sum.
