View Full Version : ASUS Maximus VI ATA issue identified with ASMedia SATA port

I have determined that if I have a CD-ROM drive plugged in to the ASMedia SATA III port (ASM1061) of the ASUS Maximus VI Extreme board I could not install or boot the current 1.0.3 Kali or a custom live-build as of July 13, 2013.

Symptom: the system locks up during startup of either the Install or the Live-Boot - 32 or 64bit.

Solution was to move the CD-ROM drive off the ASMedia (ASM1061) SATA port and onto on of the Intel Z87 SATA ports or just disable the ASMedia port when using Kali.

The ROM drive I am using is the Lite-on iHBS212. I did do a firmware update to HL05. The drive works fine in Win7 on the ASMedia port and works in Kali if I put it on the Intel SATA port. I also tried replacing the SATA cable. I'm guessing it's a driver issue with this bleeding edge hardware.

Maybe this will save someone a few days of headaches ;)

Chris
