View Full Version : Update GNOME
Hi,
I am quite a new user and I was wondering how can I update to the newest version of GNOME without making a custom ISO image which is described here (http://docs.kali.org/live-build/customize-the-kali-desktop-environment).
I have Kali Linux installed with the GNOME Shell 3.4.2 version.
So is there a way to update to the newest version of GNOME without reinstalling Kali Linux using the custom ISO image ?
Thank you.

I too am searching for the best way to upgrade Kali 1.5 to the latest version of gnome.
I know that the gnome repos will need to be added.
I'm not too sure on the rest.
I'm surprised no one has written a tutorial already for this topic.
Thanks
apt-get dist-upgrade
Well in my case it only brings up Gnome Version 3.4.2.1 so it doesn't update to the newest one, which would be nice because it would support SkyDrive in the online accounts if it would be a newer version.
Sry for bothering again but does anyone know howto get Gnome up2date, so that it's able to look like http://www.gnome.org/gnome-3/ ...

when you go to log in, DONT. look on the bottom left. There will be a box that says 'System Default'. click on it. there will be all the desktop themes that are setup on your system. look for gnome 3. then log in...
i hope that helped you.
:)

Hi,
You could try to do this (http://forums.kali.org/showthread.php?1700-Enable-full-gnome-instead-of-gnome-fallback-%29),
Maybe this helps.
