How to install East Asian Language?

I searched the web and this forum for ways to install East Asian languages(Chinese/Japanese) but had no luck.

I tried Backtrack's method but didn't work.
I tried the apt-get .... scim-pinyin but didn't work.
I tried system setting->region and language but didn't work.

Anyone have any idea?

reinstall it, and select asian keyboard input , i have no idea about it but i should works
