I am running kali linux 1.0.6 on a amd64 HP Pavilion g6-2123us notebook, and I have been unable to fully start the gnome 3 environment. Ever since I installed the system (dual-boot with Win7), it has been loading the fallback environment because a suitable 3D compatable graphics driver (ATI Radeon HD 7000 series on a dual-core A4 APU) was not imediately available until I installed it a few days ago. After the succesful installation (Scorched Earth 3D and Stellarium run very smoothly), I looked up and followed some instructions from another forum post (http://forums.kali.org/showthread.php?1700-Enable-full-gnome-instead-of-gnome-fallback-), and then rebooted; only to get a error screen with a :( faced computer screen, "failed to load" message, and a logout button. I attached some excerpts from syslog that show several errors on loading gnome3, and indicate that gtk also throws a critical error. If I select gnome-classic on login, then the classic mode loads perfectly.
