I have been having trouble with upgrading my current custom 1.0.6 version of kali to 1.0.7

I was hoping to get some help finding a way to "rip the file system" from my current customized Kali(CIAv3 wheezy 7) and apply it to the new kali 1.0.7 update.

I'd like to retain the scripts and packages I currently have and also have the updated version of Kali.
Will I need the barebones .iso for kali 1.0.7 or is there a simpler method?

Sorry, I'm sort of a novice at linux so any help would be very much appreciated.
