You are the first one to try out the Nexus 4 and give feedback, which makes you the only tester so far.

Please let me know if you would like to work with me on the kernel to continue testing.

Here, try my thing... https://forums.kali.org/showthread.php?22846-Development-for-NetHunter-installer-on-OS-X-and-Linux&p=37477

It might help!
If there is nothing else on your device, select restore to stock, THEN follow the nethunter installer.

hi all,

ı have a nexus 4 and had the same problem, after the kali installation the reboots and goes into loop,

I used the windows installer tool, but during the install I had a problem and had to manuall install the Android stock (Which was easy by copy/pasteing the code from the bat file :) )

if any body has any updates ı would appreciate it :))

just tried the new kernel. Still boot looping

binkybear
2014-10-10, 05:16
Two more:

v2 is a modified mkbootimg.sh - http://d-h.st/Wcqn
v3 is a clean kernel with just the default config (no ext wifi/bluetooth/etc) - http://d-h.st/MFO

I'm trying to determine if its the installer or the actual kernel.

amducious
2014-10-10, 23:09
V2 boots perfectly
V3 boot loops (I expected this one to work)

binkybear

Looks like I was mistaken. The installer rebooted the phone and then froze. Keeping the same kernel version I had before 3.4.0-perf-ga6edd5e [email protected] #1 Wed Apr 16 09:33:17 PDT 2014

Also, this is an AOSP/Stock only kernel so it won't work on CM.

Fresh install of factory images for Nexus 4 from:
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images

Unlocked bootloader and rooted devices.

Device boots system partition without problem.

Installation of Kali Nethunter (for Nexus 4 experimental) from:
http://www.offensive-security.com/kali-linux-nethunter-download/

After installation of Kali Nethunter, device goes into reboot loop. Does not want to boot system partition, it just reboots itself.

If there's anyway I can help with debugging problem, let me know.

I was able to install nethunter on my nexus 4 via Windows, when the phone stack at the google logo i just reboot in twrp mode that's just for the connection then from the NRT (nexus root toolkits) i restored the default google image, but something about monitoring mode of the wireless its not working properly

binkybear
2014-10-20, 05:44
It's probably easier if I use someone else's installer now and just replace the kernel with my own. Here is the latest unleashed installer with the latest kernel.

https://transfer.sh/TEJgC/unleashed-91u-a1-aosp.zip

A bootloop doesn't really give me any information because it never makes to logcat. So it's really hard to tell what might be wrong (usually installer).

amducious
2014-10-20, 10:38
Hate to say it still just getting a boot loop. to make sure it was not an issue with twrp i switched over to cwm still getting boot loop. To make sure I was not doing something wrong I downloaded an unmodified version of "defcon-91u-a1-unleashed-AOSP_mako" it installed find showing "3.4.104-unleashed-91u-a1+ultimate@ion-pc #1 Mon Oct 20 00:44:11 EDT 2014" for the kernel. Keep working at it we all appreciate the work your putting in. I wish I knew how to help but I would have no clue where to start.

mibcadet - Testing continues. I rebuilt everything from google sources and applied a few patches (kexec, keyboard, otg):

https://transfer.sh/1aHa8p/n4-modbootimg.zip - extracted bootimg and replaced with kernel

Hey Binky, I flashed this new files and it there was no loop.
Now one questions just in case I did something wrong, I flashed the kali image then this files you provided.
my storage shows only 5GB and most of it is used, is the rest taken by the Kali installation?

amducious
2014-10-22, 19:38
n4-modbootimg.zip - loaded/booted successfully - with kernel showing as (3.4.0-perf-gca429e9root@kali #1 Tue Oct 21 18:48:22 HST 2014)

Kernel-kali-n4 - looked like it worked but the kernel version was left as 3.4.104-unleashed-91u-a1+ultimate@ion-pc #1 Mon Oct 20 00:44:11 EDT 2014

so it looks like your first one "n4-modbootimg.zip" worked. but your second kernel "Kernel-kali-n4" did not load correctly.

hey blinky, have been trying like **** to flash the latest kernels you've been posting but keep getting the same bootloop. the only one that does not end up in a loop is n4-modbootimg.zip, but it just goes to gray after Google screen. does this issue have anything to do with secure boot being enabled? i've seen some other forums asking how to disable, but no solutions yet. i tried flashing back to 4.2.2 without any luck. are there any bootloop issues on the nexus 5? also, should we flash new kernel first followed by kali nethunter image or vice versa?

thanks!

@pioneer11x - The kernel that comes with the Nexus 4 will send you to a boot loop. You can try installing the other kernel (modbootimg) a couple posts back after the installation is complete. (Go into recovery and flash zip file)

@monstorbak - Did you try the latest kernel and it didn't work? (post 41) I just need to know so I can try to shake out the problem. The fact that you were able to flash with modbootimg tells me it works. You shouldn't have to switch to an earlier android version. You can install nethunter and then try flashing the modbootimg if that kernel works for you.

@m4xw - The Nexus 4 requires y-cable in order to support OTG. I just need to confirm that you are using y-cable.

@integy - You should be able to flash nethunter over stock 4.4.4 then use kernel #9 (flash in TWRP). This is just based on feedback so far so I can't confirm.

Is it too late to get a copy of a working kernel, or an active link? I've been using KaliPwn on my Nexus 7 2013 for a while now and just received a nexus 4 from a friend and was hoping to flash the nethunter image on it, however I cant find a working kernel and I am stuck with a bootloop like the others. Hi nenimlas,

I'm playing around with my nexus 4 and nethunter and compiled a "working" (not-bootlooping) kernel. You can flash it with TWRP after install the nethunter.zip from the download page. I haven't tested if wireless attacks work but you can enter the kali chroot and msf.

Use 10minutemail.com or similar service for requesting the downloadlink.

Hi all..

Here are my 2 cents about this..
I tried to do the install in several ways, but the only way it worked for me was the following:

1. Flash the factory image as per instructions here (https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images). And of course stopping after step 6.
2. Use Nexus Root Toolkit (NRT) (http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/) as per instructions on the same page.
3. Install "TWRP Manager (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jmz.soft.twrpmanager&hl=en)" and Allow (Grant) it SuperUser access.
4. Flash TeamWin Recovery Project (TWRP) (http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/mako) version 2.8.3.2 (http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/mako/openrecovery-twrp-2.8.3.2-mako.img). Either with TWRP Manager or manually.
5. And NOW run the NetHunter Installer. As mine has stopped after pushing the 1.10_occam_kitkat.zip file to the phone and trying to run the flash script. As it was already in the recovery I just continued the installation of the said file manually, through the "Install" command inside the recovery and then choosing the file in question.
6. After the lengthy installation just follow the "Post Installation (http://www.nethunter.com/install/#postinstall)" as described on the page.
7. Tah-Daaaaaahhh.. Voila.. At least it was for me..

I wish you much luck in this process dear Sirs and/or Ma'ams.

Hope this was helpful..

I'm interested as well, as my N4 has been a great servant so far and will continue to be in the future :).

I just installed v 1.1 by manually flashing the zip in multirom twrp. I had a warning that the zip was too big and that it would be modified but the rest of the install went off without a hitch. It booted fine, no boot loops and all appears to be working but I don't have an OTG y cable to test. Is the warning anything to worry about. I had about 6.5 gigs free space which is quite abit on the nexus 4 that has no sd card slot. Ive sort of been reading around and it sounds like somethings aren't working. I wondered if I could try something simple to test. Most of my knowledge is around wireless and airmon-ng but would like to test if somebody could point me. I noticed that during the flash of the zip that it also said installing busy box so do we still have to install the busybox app in our rom? I hope support for the nexus 4 continues since Im sort of thinking of retiring as my daily and keep it for pentesting

Hi had the same boot loop.
First. Make sure you have android 4.4.4 on your nexus 4 as lolipop drivers will mess thinks up. and remove all old drivers from your PC.
I used: nexus root kit from WugFresh. went to Android 4.4.4 KTU84P --> Full Driver installation guide.

Downloaded the kali_linux_nethunter_1.10_occam_kitkat.zip from the website and pointed the install from the Nethunter install
STEP 3# Installer Configuration browse to this file as a custom kali linux Nethunter.

Installed without a problem after that.

Now I still have some issues:
TWRP gives a problem with: Mount usbotg not mounting in bootloader
OTG not working out of the box.
(Does work a little after install hells-Core-b47-USB-OTG_Justvarshney.zip internal wifi keeps working) TL-WN722N usb does not work.

Wlan1 is not there.
Using a Y-cable (working with mouse and usb after install: hells-Core-b47-USB-OTG_Justvarshney.zip) 2amp powerd.
When i plugin my tl-wn722n and do a lsusb it does show up in the list.
In iwconfig does not show. No wlan1
Driver files are on the filesystem.

Hi,

A major truth is been hidden behind kali nethunter. That is, Its not an independent OS like ur Venila android or Cyanogenmod. All you need to do is
1. Install ur stock rom (Kit kat 4.4.4 Dont update to lollipop)
2. Root and install TWRP
3. Copy the nethunter package to ur internal memory
4. Reboot 2 recovery
5. Install >> select the net hunter zip >> Install and reboot the system
It will work fine

If u are a MultiRom use

1. Install kitkat
2. Reboot 2 recovery
3. advanced >> Multirom >> LIst roms
4. Select the kit kat rom
5. Select net hunter flash zip, install it and reboot to the rom
6. You will find net hunter as an app with all the necessary tools
7. Thats it Done.. Enjoyyyyyyy...
