I spun up an instance of the Kali Linux ami on ec2. It was a surprise to me to find out that the Kali Minimal image does not seem to have Kali installed. At least I cannot find it. I found some instructions on this forum at

https://forums.kali.org/showthread.php?20502-X-Windows-on-Kali-EC2-AMI&highlight=amazon

Per those instructions, I executed the following commands:

apt-get update
apt-get install kali-linux-full

The first worked as expected. The second, after it appeared to be installing, ended in a flurry of errors similar to this:

Failed to fetch http://security.kali.org/kali-security/pool/main/f/file/libmagic-dev_5.11-2+deb7u5_amd64.deb 404 Not Found

I've been unable to locate any simple, straight forward instructions on how to use the Kali Linux Minimal image. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

You will have to update the repositories before installing the full and updates. See the information on the following page:
