general infoI have:
- Kali-Linux-1.1.0-vm-amd64
- running as VM on VirtualBox 4.3.28
- host is windows 7
- ACR122u card reader is connected to a USB2 port with a mifare classic 1k tag

Kali can't seem to detect the reader when connected (it's fully functional under the windows host).
here are a few symptoms:

# pcscd -f
00000000 pcscdaemon.c:364:main() file /var/run/pcscd/pcscd.comm already exists.
00000114 pcscdaemon.c:366:main() Another pcscd (pid: 3321) seems to be running.

problem solved:
It would appear that (counter-intuitively) one should not only make sure that USB is enabled (in the settings of the VM), BUT, a filter should be added for each device.
