I have been trying to make my TL-WN722N external wifi adapter work with 4.4.4 android version + nethunter. It is not even flashing. Maybe the nexus 5 can't give enough charge? I'm using simple OTG cable for now, I will try with Y cable when I can. If I run dmesg it doesn't show up anything about wlan1, only wlan0, but before I ran a full apt-get update + upgrade it did show up, but didn't work either (even before upgrade, it wasn't flashing). I couldn't and can't bring wlan1 up by ifconfig. /dev/socket doesn't have a wpa_wlan1 entry either.

OTG cable works with everything else, I have also successfully used the wifi adapter for packet injection on my laptop.

It seems to me that nexus 5 gets little attention. Has anyone successfully used nexus 5 for such? I see one positive example here: https://forums.kali.org/showthread.php?25313-Nethunter-4-4-4-Awus036h-Y-otg-with-external-battery&highlight=nexus+5 , but I have a different adapter and kernel.

Do you run it on kitkat or lollipop?

Ok, some development: I have bought a Hama 54140 USB OTG Hub which has micro USB power supply too, now dmesg sees the adapter, but still nothing shows up in the ifconfig.
dmesg output that seems to be related to this problem:

what does lsusb pull up? also any power lights indicators on the adapter at all when plugged in directly to otg or to your (i'm hoping powered) powered usb hub?

lsusb output:

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0cf3:9271 Atheros Communications, Inc. AR9271 802.11n
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 1a40:0101 Terminus Technology Inc. 4-Port HUB
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Yes, as I wrote above, the hub is powered from micro usb (only toward the peripherials). Also tested on laptop, works perfectly, including the power. The hub works if I connect external keyboard to the mobile.

I think I will just upgrade to lollipop on the weekend and try it with that.

Ah forgot to answer one question: the wifi adapter is only flashing when it is under use, connecting it to power doesn't make any lamp blink or turn on.

Solved:

I have installed 5.1.1 android with newest nethunter image and it works perfectly.
