Refer to this: https://forum.aircrack-ng.org/index.php/topic,1212.msg3810.html#msg3810 Same issue different card.
I am using the awus036h and when I type "ifconfig" it comes up with the following name "wlx00c0ca6d129" instead of wlan1 etc.

airmon-ng detects the 8187 chipset but the name is messed up. Have a few alfas and same issue on all. Suggestions?
Am running it on a raspberrypi 2 with a powered usb hub.

I saw another thread on this very issue, with a solution...somewhere on the Kali forums.

Ya I found this https://forums.kali.org/showthread.php?29423-Alfa-AWUS036H-Problem-wierd-interface-name-and-error-log-for-monitor-mode&p=55857&viewfull=1#post55857
which works, but it feels off. When I try that solution wifite doesnt work at all(cant put card into monitor mode), but I can do it through airmon.

I guess you'd have to examine the wifite code, and see how it's putting the device in monitor mode, to know what's going on. I haven't used wifite myself.

Does packet injection work ok?
