I've read plenty of times on the forums about people having to remove and reinsert there USB stick while installing Kali 2.0 to HDD and this gets them past the cd-rom error. I've tried this extensively on Kali 2016.1 and its just not working. Has anyone else been able to install Kali 2016.1 to HDD and get past the cd-rom error?

first check sha1 of downloaded Kali iso img
then make boot usb only with Win 32 Disk Imager or dd command
and try again

These are the exact steps I've taken using win32 disk imager. I'll try again.

Well apparently I had 2 downloads of Kali 2016.1. One of which did not have a valid sha1, the other did. It appears that I when using the win32 I selecting the image that did not have a valid sha1. Everything is working as it should and now have a dual booted win10/kali 2016.1. Problem solved. Feeling like a complete newb... smh...

How to do This Step..?

sorry for newbie question....

the best answer is to use google search for that kind of questions :rolleyes:

but at the other side UR newbie

"to check md5 and SHA1 just type those commands in terminal (under any Linux)
md5sum {file}
sha1sum {file}

or on windows you have excellent tool
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/hash_my_files.html
with which you can add checksum on right click meny on file"

no hard feeling
cheers
