i have installed kali from usb on an old scrap pc i made ( could not make bootable disk maybe optic unite busted ) and after install i could not get to the system gui only terminal access from recovery mode

after first install i got this error

so i thought its maybe because of the ide to sata adapter that i used ( because i dont have any sata connector on the motherboard )

i managed to find some one with an old 80 GM maxtor ide HDD ( which sounds like a popcorn popper when it runs ) and i traded him my 160 GB WDC sata HDD ( good deal right ? ) and reinstalled the system again and it still wont boot into gui

and still no gui

so i installed the system again ( the 3 time ) this time with network on and network mirror and all to get the update and upgrade and after install got into recovery mode with root access and did

apt-get update && apt-get upgrade

waited for 40-45 min for all to be downloaded and started and rebooted
the end result still no gui

if i try and run kali live from usb it works ok with gui and all

what can i do next ?
