At the end of my wits here, I've upgraded to the latest Dist of Kali and since doing so my adapter will only see my router! Rolled back to kali 2016 and works perfectly and I can see 15 SSIDs and when connected to my yagi I can see 35! Updated again to 2017 and it dropped to my router only (same when connected to the yagi).

I've ran it through wavemon:
2016 link quality = 100%
2017 link quality = 49%

There has been no hardware changes, I preformed and apt-get update && apt-get upgrade before each test.

Downloaded the firmware from Alfa and cp'd the vanilla firmware into the firmware folder and it's made no difference.

I've ran a comparison in 2017 with my WM722N adapter, signal strength is 100% and it can see 13 SSID's however I don't want to be stuck using the 722N as it's purely for my pwnphone.

any help would be gratefully received as at this rate i'll be rolling back for good to 2016.

Thanks in advance.

I've seen some chatter on bugs.kali.org about similar issues with the 4.12 kernel. Don't recall the ticket numbers, though. I'd do some searching there and see what turns up.

Just tested my Alfa AWUS051NH v.2 on Kali: monitor mode & packet injection are working after applying the latest updates. For reference, here is the output of uname -a && cat /etc/*-release && cat /proc/version on my box.

sorry for the delay in replying. Just checked mine and it's exactly the same as the output you posted...... really scratching my head with this one!

I've given up on kali 2017.2 and re-installed 2016, everything is now working perfectly, with exception of Firefox, so currently using Chrome as a workaround.

Hi guys!

I've got the same problem as 1234pwn with my alfa awus051nh v.2 and I'm really mad that it's not working properly.

personally I'd say re-install 2016 and use chrome/firefox until this bug is sorted.

There's a bug report that has recently been resolved (https://bugs.kali.org/view.php?id=4220) which might fix the gold alfa (AWUS051NH v.2) issues. Haven't tried it yet. When you run airmon-ng, does the adapter report the correct driver (rt2800usb)?
