Good morning

I have been trying to set up a Kali VM onto an Asus GL702V, sporting an Intel AC 8260 wifi chipset

After many attempts I'm asking for help :

and those two cards show up in eth0 and eth1

which is normal for eth1 ... but not for eth0 that I expected to see as wlan0

Because after all the wired network is also an internal card, and so the video is ... Is there an architectural specificity in the physical host hardware, or an implementation peculiarity in the VM sotware ? About VM software, I made an attempt with VMWare player 14 and I gave up as it was horrendously slow ... installing complements was significantly less painfull than with VirtualBox, however. It applies to any internal device on the PCI bus, not only wifi. And that includes Ethernet cards too. Some virtualization allow to do PCI passthrough but it is fairly complicated to set up and AFAIK Virtualbox or VMware workstation/player/esxi are not able to do it.

The card you have inside your VM is a virtualized card, it is not a direct access to your network card.
