Hi,

Not sure if this should be in here or the installing section.

I created a custom image as my old laptop doesn't support PAE. I followed the instructions here (http://docs.kali.org/live-build/live-build-a-custom-kali-iso) and also changed the desktop to be LXDE as per the instructions here (http://docs.kali.org/live-build/customize-the-kali-desktop-environment).

I then thought I'd test the ISO by installing it on virtual box on the laptop before attempting a physical install. When I power up the virtual machine it sees the ISO and presents me with the options to install or live boot etc. I can boot into the live environment with no problem but when I try installing either from the live environment or directly it fails after the partioning stage and it starts to copy the data over. The only message I guess is that the installation step failed.

I guess then my question is twofold 1) did I create the ISO incorrectly? and 2) how can I see specifically what is causing it to fail?

Thanks

Can you give us the content of your /var/log/syslog after an installation fail ?

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the delay in answering but I've been away. I've attached the syslog (had to cut it down to fit size limits on here) as requested. It looks like it is failing here and the preceding lines:

"May 9 15:14:09 base-installer: error: The tar process copying the live system failed (only 9352 out of 246790 files have been copied, last file was )."
