View Full Version : Ralink 5572 - Strange behavior
Hi,
I have bought a USB Wireless Ralink 5572.
I have a strange behavior if I use KaliVM or Kali "standalone".
If I use aireplay to inject wifi packet in KaliVM, no injection occours.
If I use aireplay to inject wifi packet in Kali "Standalone", injection works fine.
This problem occurs only in 5Ghz wireless network. In 2.4Ghz network injection works fine also in KaliVM.
How can I fix it?
The kali used is 2018.2.
Thanks

No idea.
For the VM, make sure the port is at least USB 2.0 (For VB, you have to install the extension pack) and test 3.0
Then check in dmesg for any potential error message. Clear it (dmesg -c) before you plug the card and look if it tells anything useful.

Hi found it
[ 338.370782] ieee80211 phy0: rt2x00usb_vendor_request: Error - Vendor Request 0x07 failed for offset 0x1400 with error -110
how can i do?
Thanks
So packet injection fails only for 5 ghz in a VM? Odd behavior, as packet injection is usually all or nothing, regardless of radio frequency. Do you see the same dmesg error regardless of running Kali in a VM, or non-VM?
Hi,
the problem persists only on VM with 5ghz packet injection.
If I use 5Ghz on a non-VM, packet injection works fine and no error message are found with the dmesg command.
It's got to have something to do with the virtual machine, but I'm not sure what it could be. I typically run Kali in a non-VM way

DO you know if there is a webpage with all wifi usb adapter test in vm-kali?
Thanks again.

There is no such thing because there are way too many wireless adapters.
