hello all,

i haven't used my kali linux in a while, and when i booted it up for a new project, i realized i couldn't remember the password. i currently have it dual booted with win10, on a seperate SSD. i went through the recovery grub and did the edit to allow password reset, however the kernal stalls out identifying USB devices. its not frozen, i can turn off or on the last USB device listed and it will register as disconnected or found, but won't move past that point to drop me in the shell. any insight or help would be greatly appreciated. id rather not reinstall if at all possible.

Usually a good old google yields results on the first go.

Specifically for kail:

On other linux distros, but will probably be similar for kali:
