I've tried using kali-linux-2018.3-rpi0w-re4son.img.xz and kali-linux-2018.4-rpi0w-nexmon.img.xz and niether one find my alfa awus036nha.
When I plug it it I get this in /var/log/messages:
Dec 5 04:07:47 kali kernel: [ 6507.157518] usb 1-1.2: new high-speed USB device number 7 using dwc2

I then procede to ifconfig -a and ... nothing...

It works both on raspberry pi zero w / rasbian and pugged into an aser aspire one running puppy linux...

Any ideas??

Thanks

There should at least be "lo" (and wlan0 with nexmon), but looking at the logs you're showing, it initialized just fine with the correct driver, so it doesn't make much sense.

One thing you can try is using a powered USB hub for the card, I don't remember how much power the RPi can give.

Thanks
I'm using kali-linux-2018.4-rpi0w-nexmon-p4wnp1
I'm sorry I should have stated that the results of "ifconfg -a" were lo, mon.wlan0, usb0 and wlan0 but no wlan1 with kali ...
I just rebooted with a rasbian sdcard, the same hardware configuration and a powered hub I DO have lo,wlan0 AND wlan1.
I don't understand...

What's the output of airmon-ng?

What's the output of airmon-ng?

Normally airmon-ng needs an adapter (wlan0,wlan1...) as an argument. The raspberry pi zero w already has wlan0. My awus036nha, if it were to be found by the system, would be wlan1. It is not found by Kali. Running airmon-ng without arguments only reports wlan0 under the interfaces.

No, it doesn't, it's optional. Could you paste the output of airmon-ng?

Looking at the logs, and noticed the last entry, which lead me to this: https://github.com/qca/open-ath9k-htc-firmware/wiki/usb-related-issues

I've got no other idea if that doesn't work, sorry.

Thanks anyway. As I say, if I take out the kali sdcard and put in a rasbian it works... I will continue to search...
Thanks
