Hello,

I am running the 2019.1 VM. I keep it updated and today I noticed that kali-rolling 5.0.0-1 is available, but will not install using apt upgrade. If I list upgradable with -a it shows 'kali-rolling 5.0.0-1 all [upgradable from 4.9.6-1]'.

Searching I have not been able to find any information on this.

Any information on this? How do I upgrade to rolling 5.0.0?

not sure what you're talking about, but try "apt dist-upgrade"

After applying available upgrades, if I rerun apt update I get '1 package can be upgraded.' If I then run apt list --upgradable -a it gives me this:

recon-ng/kali-rolling 5.0.0-1 all [upgradable from: 4.9.6-1]
recon-ng/now 4.9.6-1 all [installed,upgrable to 5.0.0-1]

did not catch the 'recon-ng' initially. So it was an update for recon-ng that the normal upgrade would not install. Running 'apt dist-upgrade' took care of it. Thank you.

always use dist-upgrade instead of upgrade, that should solve your problem. dist-upgrade does more than upgrade. Here is more details: https://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2000/02/msg00479.html
