New install of Kali 2019-4-amd64(5.3.0) on Acer aspire 3 (A315-42-R2D9) Ryzen 3 3500U Vega 8

I've tried everything I've been able to find on this forum, redhat, Debian and ubuntu forums.

Booting the live USB works fine. Advanced trackpad works, graphics work, network works.
Used the live installer to install to 128GB USB 3.1. with ecrypted LVM.

Boots fine to the login screen. Using Ctrl-alt-F2 from login screen to terminal works
Once you log in, blank screen with no mouse, Ctrl-Alt-F2 does not work, only pressing power key causes it to shut down.
A lot of the advice seems to be old (from 2016).

I have already cone:
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
apt-get dist-upgrade

apt-get purge lightdm
apt-get install lightdm

restarted with nouveau.modeset=0 on grub line (no change)
restarted with nomodeset on grub line (no boot at all)
restarted with acpi=off
restarted with nosplash
- and various combinations of the above

I looked at the .xsession-errors. It complains that there is already a display manager.
A copy of the session errors is attached.

Also copies of
lsmod | grep amdcpu
lspci -k | grep -iEA5 'vga|3d'
also attached

Thanks in advance..

You shouldn't have to do all that. Just reinstall something didnt work right. Follow this guide.
https://devanswers.co/guide-kali-linux-2018-live-usb-encrypted-persistence-windows/
Dont use Rufus use universal USB installer. Once your done reboot twice to get persistence he just says reboot but if you only do it once you dont have persistence. Finish install reboot sign in reboot sign in your done.
