Update and upgrading problem in kali linux [Archive]

I am trying to update my OS. At first I edited /etc/apt/sources.list file and saved. after that I entered command and got output like:

root@kali:~# leafpad /etc/apt/sources.list
root@kali:~# sudo apt update

Your sources.list is messed up. Check the kali docs, the defaults are provided.
