RTL8811 wifi adapter help

Hi all, I am trying to get my external wifi adapter RTL8811/12 to work since my internal one does not support monitoring mode. I installed the drivers apt-get update , apt install realtek-rtl88xxau-dkms . When I do lsusb it shows it connected but I cant seem to get it to turn on / power up. Disclaimer I am some what novice with Linux. If there is a hardware section I cant seem to find it. But any support or ideas of what to do next is greatly appreciated.

Anything in dmesg when you plug it? Clear dmesg before plugging (reboot if you already plugged it) using dmesg -c, plug it, then hit dmesg again
