Vlc player not opening

Hi when I click on VLC Player it doesn't launch and when I type VLC in the terminal I get the following message:
vlc: relocation error: vlc: symbol �eteuid version GLIBC_2.2.5 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference
When I open youtube videos or any videos in a browser the playback speed is double of what it should be.

You have to update to the latest version of the VLC media player.
