Hello, I am new to using Kali and I am having an issue with my installation. I was able to go through and complete the graphical installation on my VirtualBox machine up to the reboot needed to load the installation. As soon as my machine reboots, after the virtualbox loading screen, I am stuck with a black screen with a flashing underscore. I waited to see if it was just delaying in loading, but after an hour it still would not load. I really want to use this service, but I don't know how to fix this.

This may exactly not solve your problem, is more a workaround, but worked for me.
I had the same issue, and the only thing that really worked for me was to use an image (https://www.offensive-security.com/kali-linux-vm-vmware-virtualbox-image-download/#1572305786534-030ce714-cc3b).
I've tried a lot of things that appeared in internet, but nothing works.

I'm also very newbie on this, just started since last week, and it's been very hard to find a solution for this.
I'll keep trying, anyway, even if the image worke pretty well

ps

If my recollection is correct I saw some similar postings on this issue on Virtualbox related forums.
You might want to consider looking into your issue from a Virtualbox perspective too.

I had this issue, I only dedicated 8GB to this OS. I bumped it to 30GB, reinstalled and the VM booted. I'm unsure what the minimum requirements are.

they have special editions for virtual machines, find them at the main website, download kali linux, then at the bottom there's some links there for virtualization. that might help
