AWS Instance

Just launched a new instance of Kali in AWS from the marketplace, and it seems that from the initial shell there are no tools available. Generally I don't use Kali with any X Window, just terminal. Is there a reason stuff is not showing up anymore? For example, I can't run nmap from just a fresh install from the terminal.
