Hi

I downloaded Kali-Linux 2021.3 (64bit).vmdk (original name 64bit.7z) and created a virtual drive with it. I'm now able to boot into the Kali login prompt. However, the default login/password (kali/kali) does not work, and neither does root/toor work. I'm therefore unable to log in.

I'm also unable to edit the grub login prompt (on the line starting "linux" appending rw nosplash boot=/bin/bash) as the boot process hangs after a while and refuses to get to the root prompt.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm experiencing this same problem. I downloaded the more recent version, Kali Linux 2022.1 (64bit).vdi, successfully boot to the login page. But the default credentials kali/kali doesn't work. I tried root/toor, vagrant/vagrant, nothing work.

If you downloaded the image from:

https://www.osboxes.org/kali-linux/

The login information is found on the right hand side of the page:
