just some general questions about the project
1 - how dose Kali Linux distribution affect the development of backtrack? is Kali Linux the next evolution of backtrack and backtrack will not have any new releases in the future? or it will continue to be maintained?

2 - dose Kali Linux include all the features available in BT 5R3?

thanks duck-duck , i have seen this page before posting this thread, it dose not clearly state if backtrack will still be maintained or if Kali linux is replacing backtrack, it seems the obvious answer but i hope to have found a clear statement saying so

I have missed some stuff. Some of them from BT5R3, and others I just like to use.
So, I had to install them by myself:
- armitage;
- arp-scan;
- Browser add-ons: Elite Proxy Switcher; Firebug; Flash onoff; Greasemonkey with Cookie injector (http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/119798); HackBar; No script; Poster; Tamper data.
- filezilla;
- flashplugin-nonfree;
- gedit;
- gwrite;
- htop;
- mysql-workbench;
- sshpass;
- sqlitebrowser;
- zenmap.

1) To install add-ons press Ctrl+Shift+A, click "Get Add ons" on the left, them search for each one (Elite Proyx...);
2) To install Cookie Injector go to link http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/119798 and click the button "Install" on the top right corner;
3) To install the other stuff just copy this: apt-get install -y armitage arp-scan filezilla flashplugin-nonfree gedit gwrite htop mysql-workbench sshpass sqlitebrowser zenmap

Kali is the new version of BackTrack which will not be maintained anymore.

I think it's just a matter of time when the BT repos will be shutdown (if they haven't already).

I miss my favorite tool - OWASP Mantra (http://www.getmantra.com/).
It's just a matter of few clicks to install it though.

I miss some of them too. You will pick up armitage with your first apt-get dist-upgrade. Perhaps others will start getting put back too.

This distro is missing a few tools that I used before but, it took about two seconds to put them back on. The versatility and the pure logical smoothness of this distro far out weights these minor differences. Plus, I'm sure that there will a tool recommendation or creation port of this forum once the masses have a chance to comment properly. Well done.

I think that Kali must be the new name and generation of the Backtrack's project with more optimization and do this distribution a perfect desktop solution for forensic, pentesting, programming or development and, why not, a simple real linux experience for the day a day use.

This project is the most important in their class, you know it.
