So I have one of these for my laptop. It comes with several cables for you to choose from. You can either use HDMI + USB or USB-C to power each monitor. It worked great (literally plug and play) on my Windows laptop, but I'm trying to get it set up on Linux and it just will not display over USB-C.

https://github.com/AdnanHodzic/displaylink-debian

I found this while searching and used it to install. I uninstalled the older EVDI version that came in the kernel and now have the latest version.

I have even tried with a USB-C hub, then using HDMI and USB to connect to it and it doesn't work. It seems to be the USB-C port itself. I know it works because I can use other devices with it and have used this monitor with Windows on the same laptop. Both monitors work if I switch the HDMI-USB cables between them.

It is detected with LSUSB, as well as every device connected to it. It has a USB port, for example, that my XBox controller is plugged into. It shows up as well with that command. I can use my XBox controller with it plugged into the monitor then plugged into the laptop via USB-C but can't render video to the monitor.

XRandr just shows the internal display and the monitor connected via HDMI. I'm not sure what the DVI things are, honestly.

I have tried "xrandr --output DVI blah blah --auto" and it didn't help at all.

So I'm basically stuck. The monitor will turn on then go into sleep mode and turn back off. Displaylink is its latest version. Everything else works. I just can't get any video output to it.

Can anyone assist me with this? Thank you in advance.

Your using a VM so the USB ports are being virtualised so no GPU acceleration is available via USB ports.
