Is there a recommended procedure for backing up my virtual system? I'm using VMWare Player - it doesn't have a snapshot feature. So far I've just been creating a copy of the folder containing my virtual system, but would like to know what other people are doing.

You may wish to use Virtualbox (free) or upgrade to VMware workstation (paid) - both offer snapshot support.
