    Upgrading NetHunter

    Hi to all!
I noticed that a new version of NetHunter just came out.
There is a way to upgrade NetHunter without going thru all the process (install stock rom and, then, install nethunter) again and without loosing personal data and/or customization?
    Thanks

    Hi,

Nope I asked muts but still no answer
As far as I know updates/patches can be done and deployed from TWRP.

Maybe the new NetHunter zip file can be flashed over an old NetHunter version in TWRP?
    muts, we need your opinion

    @Al3xG,

Didn't test that.... but in order not to lose conf and apps you must remove the format userdata seq.

I'm just diving in and trying it now, running the installer (woo there's an installer now!) against my N7wifi already running Nethunter (whichever version was current 2 days ago).

If you just flash the zip, you shouldn't loose any Android app configurations, etc - just chroot configs.

Makes sense, all my scripts are in Github anyway so I figured I'd just point the installer at it and see what happens, so far so good, It's basically wrapping the Nexus Toolkit and automates a number of steps - I like how one of the first things it does now is installs the most up to date stock image first, stops people making silly mistakes.

Ah, looks like we failed somewhere near http://imgur.com/4yjEJdS

I'm now downloading the zip which I'll copy over and attempt to flash as per the old process

Edit: As expected, copying over the zip and having it flash worked fine.

has anyone upgraded an encrypted device. I believe twrp asks for the passphrase and decrypts (when using it with Wug's tools in the past anyhow). Can anyone confirm?

Answer is "no". cannot twrp the .zip file though. twrp decrypts normally with passphrase during boot to recovery. System does not recognize passphrase to decrypt during bootup. Slide down the snakes, go back to start.

For future, can upgrades be enabled for encrypted devices?

You can update NetHunter via TWRP without any problems on a encrypted device.
Just tested on a Nexus 5 with Stock Android 4.4.4 and the old NetHunter version installed.

    download kali_linux_nethunter_nexus5.zip
reboot into recovery (TWRP asks for the encryption password)
    install the .zip via TWRP

You will only lose things related to NetHunter (inside the charoot linux and maybe settings of the included apps) nothing else.

That is the nice thing that about NetHunter, it is not a ROM.
It is just a kernel and some peaches and apps for Android 4.4.4.

That was my process as well
    1. download kali_linux_nethunter_nexus7 (2012) zip
    2. reboot into recovery and enter encryption password (twrp was flashed as Wug's "custom recovery")
    3. install zip via twrp

    4. reboot via twrp, nexus7 would not recognize encryption password. Device had been rebooted several times prior to upgrade confirming correct password.

Nexus 7 Wifi 2012, Android 4.4.4, TWRP persistant recovery

I'm not sure what went wrong with my upgrade. The install process looked good; zip opened up, progress bar did it's thing, device was plugged in throughout. Ideally, it would be fully upgraded through aptitude rather than exploding the distribution zip overtop of each previous version. This is all very new though so I'll just follow along patiently.
