Move your mouse cursor to the upper left corner of your screen. This will show you all open windows for that workspace. You can close or maximize windows as needed.

Tricks like these really help me get the most out of Kali
here is a couple more windows key shortcuts that work in GNOME:
WIN+A; Applications menu
WIN+L; locks the screen
WIN+H; hides all visible windows
WIN+TAB (or ALT+TAB); an open program selector. While holding WIN+TAB push ~ to see a preview of the program.
