Lenovo T430 and kali linux

I have just finished installing Kali Linux on a t430. The text on tool bars including the unlock screen is replaced with rectangles. ANyone know how I can correct this?

Make sure your fully updated:

apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade

Then rebuild your font cache and logout and back in:

fc-cache -fv
