Kali base install worked fine from Windows Store, but adding metapackages after the fact did not. I ran into all sorts of errors after everything unpacked...starting with the following:
dpkg: error processing archive /tmp/apt-dpkg-install-WkN8bx/1161-patator_0.7-2_all.deb (--unpack):
failed to open package info file '/var/lib/dpkg/tmp.ci/control' for reading: Invalid argument
rm: cannot remove '/var/lib/dpkg/tmp.ci': Directory not empty
dpkg: error while cleaning up:
rm command for cleanup subprocess returned error exit status 1
....and it finally failed out with....
dpkg: too many errors, stopping

BUT....after stumbling across this link, I started entire install process over (uninstalled Kali in Windows apps) and followed the steps in article exactly - and everything worked (ie: when installing metapackages, they worked)
https://null-byte.wonderhowto.com/ho...ystem-0181914/
The only difference seemed to be - I did NOT do the "Step 4 - Add Windows Defender Exclusion" piece the first time I installed. Would that explain the difference?
? and thanks.
