Arrow keys type letter combinations

I've been having an issue with my right and left arrow keys on Kali lately.
when i press the right arrow key it gives me this

"qerwiuPO"

and the left key gives me this

"13428709"

I've tried changing the keyboard layout from 'eng1' to 'eng2', all that it did was press the backspace button a couple of hundred times before giving me the same output.

This is becoming a serious pain :mad:. I can't even correct a command without deleting a whole lot of words. Can anybody please help me.
I'm running KALI-ROLLING as my only OS on a HP mini 210. It's painful enough having 1GB RAM and all this lag bothering me, it would mean lots if you guys could help me solve this issue.
