Black Screen During a Graphical Install Through the Whonix Gateway

I am fairly new to most of this, but I have ran Kali Linux a couple times with VMware on Windows 7.

My current setup is an encrypted Debian install on a USB drive and then I have installed the Whonix Gateway, but when I try to install Kali Linux (1.0.8) while running it through an internal network (Whonix) the install menu appears but when I pick graphical install or any other install, I simply receive a black screen with a white stagnant cursor at the top left-hand corner.

Any help?
