install fails installing grub

I had kali running dual boot with ubuntu. I wanted to switch to Xubuntu and kali so I thought a do a clean install of both to upgrade to 1.0.7.

I have downloaded the 64bit version and copied to a USB stick with dd but the install fails at installing grub. I have tried with the full download and the minimal one and both fail the same way. I have booted into the live USB version and deleted everything off the drive causing the issues with gparted and retried the installation but the same thing happened. I'm out of ideas so please help. You all got me scared on installing 1.0.7 on my hdd. How common is it to have such problems with 1.0.7? I don't remember seeing that many complains over installation with other versions.

What grub are you talking about?

If your computer runs EFI system, then it'll say 'grub-efi' failed to install. If so, you can take a look at my thread: https://forums.kali.org/showthread.p...Beginner-Ways)

If your computer runs Legacy system (normal BIOS), then it might say 'grub-pc' failed to install. Then you should take a look at this thread: https://forums.kali.org/showthread.p...arget-quot-Fix (though I'm not sure if this works, since I haven't gotten this issue)

But you could try using the method in my thread (boot-repair) to repair the grub (it'll reinstall or install the grub again, though it's a little bit messy).
