Need help with screen resolution

I am running Kali 1.1.0 on a HP Pavilion dv6000 and the login screen really weird which stops me from logging in. This happens with all Linux systems on this laptop and it is a resolution problem because I used garter and changed the resolution of that and then it was fine.
It is a clean install on the Hdd with no other os's present.
If someone could tell me keyboard commands to login and change the resolution that would be awesome thanks.Attachment 1114Attachment 1115

Go to the command line - CTRL+ALT+F1, and try to configure resolution in xorg.conf (/etc/X11/xorg.conf)
