Boot Kali from USB on Surface Pro 2

I have been trying to get Kali to boot from a USB drive on my Surface Pro 2 w/ Win 8.1, but can not seem to get it to work. I can take the USB and put it in my desktop computer and it boots into Kali no problem. I have created the /efi/boot directory on the USB drive and put bootx64.efi and grub.cfg in it. I also disabled "Secure Boot Control". I have tried going to PC Setting/Update and recovery/Recovery/Advanced setup and selecting to boot from USB. Does anyone have any suggestion or tell me what am I missing? Thank you.

Have you tried this? The first method (hold Vol-down button, press power button, when booting, release Vol-down).

Yes, I have tried both methods. I did use the unetbootin-Windows-585 to build my USB drive from the Kali ISO(kali-linux-1.0.6-amd64.iso). I also tried it with and without adding the efi/boot folders with the above mentioned files. Have any other suggestions?

And what is your motherboard, maybe the problem in the BIOS settings ?

It does not have BIOS it has UEFI. it is a windows surface pro.

I'm having same problem. Hope someone can assist. Tried disabling Secure Boot.There's nothing like Fast Boot and legacy options on Surface Pro 2. I've tried adding the folders/files mentioned. No luck. Is there an instruction that works out there, where links aren't broken.
