Kali VM cannot access internet when it joins a local network

Hello there,

I established a LAN network between two laptops using an ethernet cable. One of them hosts kali and the other hosts Ubuntu. All machines are pinging each other successfully inside this LAN. The Physical machines can access the internet, but the problem is with Kali machine in which it cannot access the internet.

Ip addresses:

Kali machine: 192.168.1.1

The kali host : 192.168.1.2

The ubuntu host : 192. 168.1.4

Ubuntu machine : 192. 168.1.3

Gateway address of ethernet cable : 192.168.1.2

Kali network configuration:
Attached to : Bridged Adapter.

I need to access internet from kali , I tried to resolve the issue but could not . Hope i can find help here.

does network manager say device not managed?

have you tried pinging external sites? ping www.google.com, if you cant ping by hostname, try pinging by external ip (8.8.8.8 is googles public dns)

if you can ping by ip and not hostname, its a dns issue.


Bottom line is you need to explore the problem a little deeper, try this first though to see if it points out the problem.

You problem might be you have conflicting Ip addresses. If your gateway is 192.168.1.2 then the kail host cannot have the same ip address as the gateway if on the same LAN
