Recovery Mode missing from GRUB list

I'm using the latest kali vm in virtualbox, I need to shrink the disk space and for that I use the tool "zerofree" installed from the repos, to use it though I must access the recovery mode from the GRUB and run the tool from there.

The problem is that the "recovery mode" option is not listed in my GRUB boot loader! screenshot:

Across the whole list there's no recovery mode! I've even blindly attempted the first 3 ones.

This is frustrating me a lot, googling the issue it seems nobody else is affected, what am I missing?
