i just installed open vpn on my refresh install of kali yesterday with complete success. are you running kde or gnome?
if gnome, I did
Code:
apt-get install network-manager-openvpn-gnome
then click on the wifi icon on the top right of your screen. make sure you are connected to the internet. move down to VPN connections/ Configure VPN
input all of your information and credentials.
go back to the wifi icon/VPN Connections/ (choose your newly added connection)
