Kali Install to Chromebook

Have been working for the last week to get Kali installed in a FlashDrive using a Chromebook (Acer 14). Can boot live from flash drive and install to second 64GB flash drive. Graphical install completes properly but any attempt to boot just results in "Booting from USB" and just hangs there.

Have tried with and without GRUB, with 2018-1 and 2018W12, adding the boot flag or not. Have just about run out of ideas.

Bottom line: live distro from .ISO boots just fine. Image installed from the live drive does not. Suggestions welcome.
