I am unable to install php

After trying "sudo apt install php" i am met with the following error message:

"Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you haverequested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

im a beginner so please dont be too harsh on me. Any help is appreciated.
