I've always had no problems with ALFA on linux. Still new to Kali so i don't know how dependable they are.

I've always had better luck with linux OS on virtual box (oracle ) i think. VMware is the better choice for using both "computers" at once for a task.
I used Unebootin in windows to make a bootable kali usb. worked great - does it take forever to install? backtrack was pretty quick.
what kind of PC are your trying t install on?
