I finally found my same exact issue! So you just bought a new usb drive and tried a new fresh install? Never thought of that. Are you dual booting the set up? Thanks.

This is the same exact issue I have, I'm beggining to lose my mind. I can't find this string of characters in the /boot/grub.conf file. It does not say "splash" anywhere. I have a Dell Inspiron...
