Do you have the vbox tools installed in kali?
Remove "quiet" from the grub boot command and then you should see what the offending hardware is. Most likely something that's built into the kernel.

I was wrong, still not working. Wasn't this hard when I ran Ubuntu.... Maybe I'll just go back to that and compile whatever apps I need there.

Trying to install the virtualbox 4.2 deb from virtualbox's site. Says it's missing libqt4-opengl. This doesn't show in the repository when I try to apt-get it. Any ideas?

You should be able to do the advanced partitioning part and just replace the backtrack partitions with the respective kali partitions. I'd make a clone of the drive first though...
